Happy Hips,
Happy Back

Why stretching isn't the answer
A two-hour Feldenkrais Method® workshop Saturday, October 24, 2026 · 10:00 am to noon Private home studio, Fruit Heights, Utah

If your hips feel tight, you have probably been told to stretch them.

Maybe you have. Maybe it helped for an afternoon. Then the stiffness came back, and so did the low back ache that seems to travel with it.

Here is what most people are never told. Hips that feel tight are rarely short. They are underused. Your hips can move in more directions than you ask of them, and when a few of those directions go quiet, your back picks up the work.

Not a flexibility problem. A pattern problem. And patterns can change.

What happens in two hours

You will spend most of it on the floor, moving slowly, in ways that may seem too small to matter. You will be asked to pay attention rather than push. By the end, the way you stand up, walk across the room, and turn to look behind you will feel different, and you will know why.

Two lessons, two angles on the same question:

  1. 1.
Hips and pelvisHow your pelvis rides on your hips, and why your low back works overtime when it can't.
  2. 2.
Hips and turningRotation that comes from the hips instead of the lower back. This is the one that changes how you check your blind spot, swing a club, and reach for the back seat.

We close with time for your questions.

Who this is for

Active adults who want to keep hiking, dancing, gardening, playing with grandkids, or simply walking without thinking about their hips. People recovering from an old injury who finished the standard protocol and still don't feel right. Anyone with a hip replacement on their calendar, or hoping to keep one off it.

You do not need to be flexible, fit, or experienced. You need to be curious.

This is not a workout, and it is not treatment.

You stay in charge of your own experience the entire time. Nothing is forced. If a movement hurts, you make it smaller or rest. The learning happens in your nervous system, not in your hamstrings, which is why it tends to last.

Questions people ask

I have a hip replacement. Can I do this?

Yes, with your surgeon's movement restrictions respected. Everything is slow and you adjust each movement to your own range. Email me ahead if you want to talk it through.

What if I can't get down on the floor?

Tell me when you register. These lessons can be adapted to a chair, and we can plan for that.

Will I be sore afterward?

Most people feel lighter, not sore. You will not be stretching or straining.

I've never done anything like this. Will I be lost?

No. Every instruction is spoken, every movement is optional, and nobody is watching you. Most people in the room will be first-timers.

Hurt Less; Move Better. Get back to what you love!

Stay Curious!
